OK everyone -
What am I? I'm
round, I roll,
you can wear me
around your
neck, your
wrist, your
waist, your
head, well, just
every part of
you actually. I
have been around
for a very long
time. You see me
in art and
architecture,
mathematics and
nature. I'm in
your food, your
clothes, your
car, just about
everywhere
really. Your
parents and
grandparents
(and way further
back) know me
and your kids
and theirs, etc.
etc. will know
me too. You must
know what I am
by now, that's
right - a
circle! And now
if you visit the
Discovery
Science Center
you can discover
many of my
mysteries with
the
Secrets of
Circles
exhibit.
Yes circles are
all around us
all the time and
sometimes we
don't even
realize how
much. From
wheels to
clocks,
doorknobs,
tortillas,
coffee cups,
sunglasses, well
the list goes on
and on. And now
the whole family
can learn a
little something
about this very
simple shape
that affects
just about every
part of our
lives. Imagine
taking one day
and trying to
have no circles
in it. It would
be a very
different day
then you are
used to I can
tell you that.
In fact, there
is an "Invention
of the Wheel"
exhibit where
kids try to
accomplish tasks
without the help
of our friend
the circle and
find out what
life was really
like before this
more most basic
of discoveries.
But that is not
all in the very
interactive
exhibit which
also includes
the "Circle of
Circus Acts
Stage Show" that
brings everyone
into the
excitement of
the big top,
plus they get to
use the giant
compass table,
visit the
"Family of
Circles" to find
all their
various shaped
relatives and
even "Build an
Arch" to name
just a few.
The circle in
its roundness is
infinite and so
pretty much are
its uses in our
everyday life.
So take a moment
to look around
and find out
what en-circles
your life as we
all go round and
round together.
